11th June 1812: More arms raids in Newton, Cheshire

On the night of Thursday 11th June 1812, a number of raids for arms were again conducted in the village of Newton, near Hyde, Cheshire. The principal targets were the homes of local farmers, and 'General Lud's men' were seen out in greater numbers than had been active 3 nights before.

The homes of a Mr Vandrey, Thomas Goodier and Joshua Hopwood were called on, and weapons collected. The Luddites promised to return the weapons in a fortnight.

This account comes from a letter from Lewis Lees of Newton Green to General Acland of the 13th June 1812. which can be found at HO 40/2/2.
